  • The Hall H Q&A from Saturday night has become SModcast #178 – “Hall Rats”. Listen for free via iTunes or the official SModcast archive. If you prefer a quick read, JoBlo does their always-excellent job of summarizing the event. Some interesting clippage on the podcasts and “Hit Somebody”:

      - He records podcasts 6 hours a day in the studio located in his living room. Among the things he’s hoping the station to expand with are scripted radio plays, a audio sequel to CHASING AMY, his long-talked about RANGER DANGER AND THE DANGER RANGERS, a new company called Pod Book that will transcribe any and all podcasts into book form, more Smodimations (short cartoons based on random show discussions between him and Scott Mosier), and two TV shows. One of those shows would be based on S.I.R.’s Tell’em Steve Dave, a reality based show that takes place in a comic book store (the New Jersey Secret Stash). Part ‘Pawn Stars’, part ‘Hoarders”, but all about comics. Apparently AMC is considering it.

      - HIT SOMEBODY will start shooting early 2012 in Detroit (the location was part of the deal when he got the rights from Mitch Albom). The film, about a minor hockey player trying to make in the WHA, is to be narrated by Alan Rickman and Smith hopes to include everyone he ever worked with in the film. Everyone. While the film will not be self-financed (as RED STATE was) he does plan on publishing the entire script this fall in some sort of experimental public workshop to shape the film.

A script workshop, eh? Interesting stuff.

  • And speaking of the Con, Total Film listed Kevin at #10 in their articles on “15 Reasons to Love Comic-Con 2011″:

      Kevin Smith

What Is It? Imagining Comic-Con without Kevin Smith is like imagining Friday nights without a cool Corona and a slice of lime. Yes, miserable.

Luckily, Kevís back this year for An Early Evening With Kevin Smith, which is hosted in the 6,000+ capacity Hall H. Expect a raucous evening.

Why We’re Excited: Uh, itís Kevin Smith, and heís always good value for money.

Heís also caused a bit of a stir over here, having cancelled press screenings of new film Red State after reviewers were unkind to the flick ñ wonder if heíll broach that subject at the Con.

  • New live stuff! “Dear Katie”, a sexy live call-in show with Katie Morgan and Cassie Young, can now be heard nightly on SIR, for free, weeknights at 9 PM PST / MIDNIGHT EST. You can be a part of the show by tweeting your questions to Twitter hashtag #dearkatie.
  • Until we have audio or video for you, a live blog ran during Kevin’s moderation of “The Captain’s Panel” last weekend in San Diego, courtesy G4TV.
  • Retro alert! Peter David posts an archived 1995 column from that year’s Comic Con in San Diego which features a capsule review of “Mallrats”, which screened at the con that year.
  • IGN shares our excitement for the Shout Factory DVD releases of “Too Fat for 40″ and “SModimations Season 1″. “40″ will feature 90 minutes of never-before-seen footage from the show and a new intro. SModimations has been edited into a single feature, with newly created transitions and including the exclusive third part of the Harry Scotter trilogy and additional exclusive content. Yes, as always, these are both worth buying — Your dollar goes far with a Kevin Smith DVD.
  • “Red State” will play for a limited one week engagement starting August 19th at the New Beverly Cinema, quite possibly the coolest revivial theater on the planet.
