Kevin’s making attempts to set up a live edition of “Plus One Per Diem” with a rare live appearance by Jen Schwalbach during their stint in London in mid-September. Venue? The Prince Charles Cinema. Stay tuned.
Garmy strong! Ralph Garman chats “Red State” and Babble with the Houston Press. Here’s a snippet:
…Judging from the trailer, the film looks like a liberal answer to The Life Zone, the pro-life horror film that caused waves a few months ago. But Garman insists that Red State is not a political film. “Kevin never developed the film with a political view,” he says. “First and foremost, it’s a horror film.”
Garman plays Caleb, a silent “hammer of God” killer. Abin originally had lines, but Garman felt they were redundant in terms of the other characters’ point of view and asked Smith if he could, instead, be a silent killer. “Like a blunt instrument,” Garman says. Smith loved it.
“He’s a character that’s all action-based,” Garman says. “He’s almost like an attack dog.”
Major congrats to Jason Mewes and the cast of “Todd and the Book of Pure Evil” on their Gemini Award (Canadian equivalent of the Emmys).

To celebrate “Red State” day, take a peek at this beautiful fan-made one sheet from Scott Kirkman. We seriously dig his 70′s-style take on it. Nice work, sir.
To close off this super-sized edition of SModBits, why not a nice story about RST video from Kevin via Twitter? We loved this:
Via @matt_avo “always wanted to know what RST stands for.”
Rajiv, Sarla, Tarlochen – the first names of the owners, the Thapar family. #Hunji
I remember seeing the HELP WANTED ad for RST Video and thinking “A video store clerk? Fucking dream job.” Then I interviewed with Mr.Thapar. During RST interview, Thapar asked if I’d split time at his convenience store next door as well. I didn’t want to, but I said yes anyway. All I wanted to do was work at RST, but it was the dopey job at Quick Stop that changed my life. The lesson? Modify your expectations, kids.
See ya soon – Now go rent “Red State”!
