“Hit Somebody” is Heating Up…

“Red State” is still hot news, with VOD airings less than 2 days away and sell-out shows all over the world, but that hasn’t stopped Kevin from rolling on with his final cinematic offering, “Hit Somebody”. During the recent Canadian tour, Kevin < ahref="first revealed that the film would be split into two sections: “Home” and “Away”, with the split occurring just before lead character Buddy begins his stint with the NHL. As of yesterday’s broadcast, the plan was simply to label the films “Hit Somebody Part 1″ ... Read More »

Will “Somebody” Get “Hit” Twice?

Following recent comments made during Kevin’s Canadian tour with “Red State” this week, he’s mentioned that it’s possible that his final film, “Hit Somebody”, may need to arrive as two separate films, a Part 1 and Part 2, “Kill Bill” style. The Hour confirmed the comments made during the Montreal stop with this story:

The UK’s first “press screening”, something that wasn’t even done here in the US, happens for “Red State” on the evening of July 5th. Kevin gifted a few non-press lucky fans some tix on twitter today, so it’s sure to be an exciting and lively show, sponsored by Entertainment One UK, the film’s distributor. Kevin’s prepping a special introduction to send over and play before the film, which pushed back the screening by a night. No deets on where in London this is going down, so sorry … Read More »

NHL.com runs quite possibly the best article we’ve seen on Kevin’s love of hockey and “Hit Somebody”, which reveals that he’ll release the script, in full, this summer — Something he’s been hinting about as a “chunk by chunk” type of thing. Here’s some clippage:

“…It was tricky to find a way to not curse in the flick, but the device I use makes sense based on the main character,” Smith said. “And then suddenly if there was cursing it would seem weird. I know when I tell people there’s … Read More »

Smith and Mewes continue their “Cinema Enema” treatment this week with G4TV. This week, the guys chat up that awesome “Super 8″ trailer and “Hobo with a Shotgun”.

This summer, Kevin reveals that he’ll release “Hit Somebody” script chunks for those who can’t wait to read the finished product before production starts. The first piece will go on sale this August.
IFC sites “Clerks” as one of “Five Alternate Endings That Could’ve Ruined Contemporary Film Classics”:

As a reward to the Twitter followers of Kevin and Jen, Kevin presented another full-length look at a scene (in current form) from his “Hit Somebody” script exclusively via his online blog at Silent Bob Speaks. Some intro from Kevin:

…This sequence takes place after the opening scene of the film, currently page 3 of the script. The RICKMAN listed as a character slug is intended to be Alan Rickman. The film is meant to play like a novel, and Alan is our omniscient narrator. But rather than simply slug him in … Read More »

Just a few leftovers to finish out the day here. First up, back in January, we mentioned the hope that Michael Parks would break out his Twin Peaks “Jean Renault” character accent for “Hit Somebody” ,
and a recent tweet from Kevin confimed just that:

Via @bdkreviews “please tell me that Parks is returning for Hit Somebody” He’ll play a French Canadian as Buddy’s first professional coach.

Via @SpockBUCKTON “French Canadian, eh? Please tell me Parks brings back his Jean Renault accent!” That’s WHY he’s playing a FrenchCanadian.

And last, but certainly NOT … Read More »

Director of Photography Dave Klein is one of the rare memebers of the little family here — He’s been with Kevin ever since the first frame of “Clerks” was shot, and was there behind the new digital RED cameras for “Red State” — His talents have also taken him up to Canada recently where he shot 6 episodes for the upcoming season of HBO’s insanely popular “True Blood”.
Chris and Dave chatted about RED STATE, his probable involvement with HIT SOMEBODY, that still untitled father/son sci-fi space comedy, and CLERKS 3.

As promised, that first look at a scene from the script of “Hit Somebody” was presented, by Kevin, exclusively via his Silent Bob Speaks blog. What’s there is not a final version of the scene, but a current representation of where the script is at. This scene takes place about 60 pages into the current draft of HIT SOMEBODY. Itís 1961 and our lead character, Buddy McCracken, is 11. Buddy’s suffering from a personal loss when he’s visited on his family’s Saskatchewan farm by the man who’ll be … Read More »
